The region's greatest big band - Strictly Smokin' Big Band - are celebrating 20 years in the biz with an extra special gig at Hoochie Coochie in October featuring the incredible Dave O'Higgins.
Saxophonist Dave O'Higgins has played with many of the world's biggest hitters including Joey Calderazzo, Joe Locke and Peggy Lee. (Also on his CV are Frank Sinatra - Ol' Blue Eyes' last London appearance at the Royal Albert Hall; and Ray Charles - Dave played on the bluesman's 'String Love Affair' album.) So it's quite a coup for the Strictly Smokin' Big Band to get him up to Hoochie Coochie for this mouth-watering gig.
SSBB, of course, are a significant draw themselves after a quite glorious run of 20 years where they have played to sell-out crowds who thrill to their sound. And what a sound! The band are rooted in swing, but draw their influences from a wide range of composers, arrangers and musicians from across the world.
